Costs are unpredictable
Budgeting for legal advice when your lawyer bills by the hour is a nightmare. Accurate estimates are difficult to make because the time can vary.
You end up frustrated
High fees and no way to budget the total cost leaves you frustrated and wondering if contacting your lawyer is even worth it.

You shouldn't hesitate to get legal advice.

What does a general counsel do?
A general counsel is an attorney that is hired by and works for only one company. They oversee the legal issues across an entire business and report to the CEO.
General counsel is responsible for understanding the business, and how legal issues will impact the business over time.
This is different than a lawyer from a law firm that is hired for individual projects. These lawyers don't work as closely with the business for as long of a period of time. Their advice, while valuable, may not be as tailored to their client's business as advice from the general counsel.
How is Small Business Legal Solutions different than general counsel?
General counsel is on the payroll of the company and we are not.
Small Business Legal Solutions allows you to have the benefit of a general counsel on a fractional basis. In other words, small businesses that don't need to hire a full time general counsel can now have the same level of service without the cost of a full time general counsel salary.
How is Small Business Legal Solutions different than other law firms?
Our business is focused on developing a long term partnership with yours. We want to be your strategic business advisor over a long period of time. We believe an ongoing partnership is better for our clients than a string of one time transactions.
The more we understand about your business, and its place in your industry, the better long term advice we can give.
Traditional law firms are typically focused on single problems for a limited duration of time.
Are your subscriptions more cost effective than traditional firms?
We think our subscriptions are more cost effective for most businesses.
1. We are not charging you for every single minute we spend working with you.
2. Our ongoing relationship encourages you to bring legal questions to us early and often. Many times expensive legal problems can be avoided if addressed early.
3. The monthly fee is easy to budget. No surprise bills impacting your short term cash flow.
Does my business actually need general counsel?
Absolutely. Just like businesses need HR and financial guidance, they also need legal support.
A common mistake is assuming that not being able to afford or needing a full-time general counsel means no legal support is necessary. This often leads to higher costs and headaches later.
Relying on owners or key officers for legal matters may save money upfront but can cause inefficiencies, unexpected risks, and increased expenses down the road. With fixed fees, legal advice becomes affordable and predictable, freeing management to focus on growth.
What types of things will you do for my business?
There is a wide variety depending on your business. But some common examples include:
- Contract drafting and negotiation
- Customer and vendor agreements
- Employee issues
- Employment policies
- Compliance with laws
- Board of Directors matters and governance
- Risk management
